How we look

How we perceive the world in which we live partly comes from how our bodies react to it. Many of these reactions go unnoticed. One example is the flickering and darting of the pupil within the eye, yet these images subconsciously contribute to our understanding and engagement with our environment.
This project makes these movements visible and brings awareness to them; building a device that can be used as a tool to make films which attempt to remove the artificial filter that a camera puts between the film maker/viewer and how we perceive the world. The device consists of a head mounted camera attached to a gimbal, which is controlled by tracking pupil movement using a camera mounted in front of the eye.
The device was first used in a performance with a live video feed. A dialogue was setup between two people discussing how the subconscious visual experience influences our perceptions, this was performed in front of a audience.
