re: Spontaneous Human Combustion
“The immense machinery of war or entertainment can hardly have said to proceed from rational necessity, however precise their implementation; instead, we find their blueprints inked upon the fiery human heart.”
Erik Davis, TechGnosis
“All occultism has recognized the existeence of a vita force that has never been identified by orthodox science.”
Rudolf Steiner, Occult Science
Science and occultism have always had an intricate relationship. Even though rationality and logic came to define the worldview of the western civilisation after the Enlightenment, the mystical and occult phenomenons have still kept haunting the curious minds of scientists and mystics. And since the development of the theories of quantum mechanics and Einsteins relativity theory, the philosophies of science now more than ever points back to the irrational and intuitive philosophies of Eastern mysticism and occult beleifs.
In the age of information technology these ideas and philosophies have won new territories on the internet where they can grow and multiply on websites and social networks, and tie into ever growing theories of science and spiritualism, conspiracy and mass deception.
In my research about the occult phenomenon ‘spontaneous human combustion’, I was thrown into a web of connections that led me to find the remnants of a series of long forgotten military experiments that were carried out in the 60s USA. My finding tells a fragmented story of how science, in the name of war, is willing to push the boundaries of what is ethically and morally acceptable, and how far the institutions of national defence are willing to go beyond what is rational.
