Wellman Waters

Researching some of London’s natural springs and wells, I encountered and filmed a particular group
of conspiracy theorists that call themselves Wellmen and gather at wells in Hampstead. Most of them didn't work in order to avoid their taxes being used for what they viewed as 'nefarious purposes'. They gathered at wells and were mostly dismissed by the public.

Wellman Waters is a service that uses water fluoridation as a gateway conspiracy for them to lure in potential believers, instead of just preaching about conspiracy theories. The Wellman persuades the passing public to let him filter their tap water for free, as an alternative social contribution. As the Wellman slowly filters the water at his “client’s” doorstep with his bespoke unit, he takes full advantage of a captivated audience and uses each upgrade filter as a starting point for raising further fears.

The film documents two Wellman’s delicate and surprising relationship with their “clients” that unfolds through the service.
